  • BetMGM has arrived on the Pennsylvanian iGaming market, bringing hopes that partypoker may follow
  • PokerStars remain the sole purveyor of poker products in the Keystone State for over a year now
  • Pennsylvania now has 12 interactive gaming brands with the hopes being that more operators will seek to bring poker online

Roar Digital’s interactive gambling brand, BetMGM, has rolled out softly on the Pennsylvanian market on Tuesday, launching a variety of products, to name table and slot games. To establish itself in the Keystone Market, BetMGM has signed a partnership with Hollywood Casino, operated by Penn National.

In an official statement, the company had this to say rather jubilantly, too: “The long wait is over. BetMGM is now live with casino gaming in Pennsylvania!” The arrival of another iGaming brand raises the question what this event means for the poker industry.

Presently, the state’s only interactive poker operator remains PokerStars PA, although 888/WSOP and partypoker are close to a launch themselves. BetMGM could make this a reality, although the company seems to be in no particular hurry.

BetMGM Can Bring Partypoker to Pennsylvania

The long wait is not over after all, because a number of consumers in the Keystone State are interested in experiencing online poker on a card room different than PokerStars. PokerStars PA has definitely had a success in the state, and has not abused its monopoly in the slightest.

Yet, players yearn for a more competitive poker environment, and should BetMGM go ahead and launch partypoker PA, this will grant players in the state access to the card room’s network in the United States.

A launch however is not expected until early-to-mid 2021. Meanwhile, 888 received an approval from the Pennsylvania Gambling Control Board (PGCB) with the company deeming the brand an Interactive Gaming Manufacturer license worth.

Should we see 888poker PA launch in the Keystone State, this would immediately grant access to the WSOP network, and allow players from the state to participate in online qualifying events for the World Series of Poker.

However, we will have to wait until 2021 to see what happens next. In the meantime, PokerStars PA has managed to generate over $35 million in its first year of operations in the state.

Put Your Money Where Online Casinos Are

Pennsylvania is one of the largest interactive gaming markets in the United States. There are 12 interactive casinos in Pennsylvania following BetMGM’s ambitious entry, on top of already established brands such as SugarHouse, DraftKings, Unibet, Fox Bet, FanDuel, and BetRivers.

Yet, out of all of these, BetMGM seems the most likely candidate to bring partypoker to the Keystone State and open up the sluicegates to an entirely new vertical, enhancing and challenging PokerStars’ undeniable influence on the community.
