Mt. Airy Applies for Beaver County Mini-Casino License - News % : News

The owners of Monroe County-based Mount Airy Casino Resort on Friday, October 12 officially forwarded their application for a mini-casino license to the Pennsylvania Gaming Control Board. With this development, the multimillion-dollar mini casino complex will be constructed in the land that is currently laying barren in Big Beaver.

The Times Online, a local news outlet, reports that the casino operator is targeting a late 2019 openings of its gaming complex which is expected to feature 30 table games and 750 slot machines. In anticipation of the submission of their license application, Mount Airy bought 100 acres of barren land just off Interstate 376 in August – this land is where the proposed mini-casino is expected to be constructed. Having submitted the application to the Keystone State’s gaming control board, the casino developer hope to break ground on the project early next year.

According to Vincent Jordan, the vice presided of marketing and gaming operations for Mount Airy Pittsburgh, the company’s officials are very excited and optimistic about the license application especially because it would allow for some significant developments for both the casino and the community.

“While the due diligence process is underway, we’re enthusiastic about working with the community on job training and other partnerships,” Jordan commented on the license application. “We are looking forward to communicating our plans and are appreciative of all the help and collaboration we have received from Beaver County officials.”

The casino’s officials have even made plans to begin discussions with state’s workforce development and educational partners, a move that has earned them a lot of praise since it shows their dedication to the project and its prospective benefits to the Big Beaver County community.

The Plan

As it turns out, Mount Airy’s mini-casino project is going to be implemented in two phases. The first phase of the project will involve the construction of the actual gaming facility and restaurants. The second phase will, on the other hand, involve the expansion of the gaming complex to include many other entertainment facilities.

As far as job opportunities are concerned, Mount Airy has confirmed that the initial phase will create at least 300 construction jobs as well as between 400 and 500 permanent jobs once the restaurants and the casino go live. An additional 200 to 3000 jobs will be generated once the second phase is completed.

The Pennsylvania Gaming Control Board will not be releasing the license application for public review just yet – the regulator’s officials explained that this would take at least a few weeks – since it will first have to review its completeness and edit any pieces of confidential information. This will be followed by a public hearing that will be held in Big Beaver, but a date is yet to be set for this as well.
