Thanks to a decision by the Pennsylvania Gaming Control Board during a hearing on Wednesday, June 12, Penn National Gaming Inc. has been given the green light to proceed with its plans to build a satellite casino in Morgantown. According to the gaming control board’s officials, the mini casino which will be known as Hollywood Casino Morgantown is set to officially open its doors in the course of next years, that is, they are estimating that the timeline for the completion of the casino project will be 18 months.

Penn National’s bid to establish a satellite casino in the area received overwhelming support despite a few concerns from some of the residents. With the facility set to attract customers from Reading and the Suburbs of Philadelphia, it will certainly breathe some new life into the towns social and economic landscapes.

One of the most exciting things about it is that it is anticipated to offer up to 250 full-time jobs once it goes live. Before that, it will also create a decent number of construction jobs within the 18-month construction period. Needless to say, the township also expects to benefit from the casino project – they were reportedly swayed by the economic prospects of the project. Case in point, Hollywood Casino Morgantown is expected to bring in $1.6 million in tax revenue.

Gamblers have quite a lot to look forward to with the new casino project. The gambling facility will host a total of 750 slot machines, 30 table games as well as full sports betting lounge. In addition to that, there are plans to add a restaurant, a food court, and an entertainment lounge.

Mount Airy Is Approved for Sports Betting

During the Wednesday hearing, the Keystone State’s gaming control board also approved Mount Airy Casino Resort’s petition for a sports betting license. Now sports betting enthusiast can sit back and wait for the casino which is located in Monroe County to convert its former Gypsies Night Club into a 7,000-square-foot poker room and sports book.

The Mount Airy sportsbook is expected to open in time for the forthcoming NFL season which will officially kick off on September 5. Also, the sports betting offering will be in collaboration with the Stars Group that the operator partnered with back in August 2018. That said, it is expected that it will cover a wide range of sporting activities including international soccer, NFL, NBA, MLB, and even Olympic events.

As mentioned above, the sportsbook and the poker room will be in a totally new location. According to Todd Greenberg, the chief operating officer, and general manager of Mount Airy, the new location will not only help in improving the operator’s poker business but will also complement the forthcoming sports betting operation.
