WSOP Invites Pennsylvanian Players for Las Vegas Series
Pennsylvania is finally not a lonesome state when it comes to online poker. After PokerStars PA’s benevolent hegemony has extended for well over a year, these past months have been action-packed for the Keystone State with the launch of Borgata, BetMGM, and now WSOP online poker.
Just days after WSOP PA announced a soft launch, the platform is now bringing to locals the $50,000 Depositor’s Freeroll, which will feature three distinct prizes in the form of tickets to the World Series of Poker (WSOP) in Las Vegas later this year.
The $10,000 Main Event is the pinnacle of the poker world and will give local players in Pennsylvania a very good reason to try their luck at the upcoming event, which is not going to launch immediately.
Not at all. WSOP wants to bid its time and make sure that when the Depositor’s Freeroll arrives at the right time with the platform having enough time to build some hype. The event is planned for August 24 at 4 pm ET, and anyone who makes a deposit before August 15 will be allowed.
The first two players will get a $10,000 Main Event ticket each for the WSOP series in Vegas, but the third ticket will be allocated randomly, keeping the suspense until the very last moment.
Early Talks about Shared Liquidity
In the wake of the Wire Act Opinion and its repeal, the poker world has not yet had time to respond and share liquidity across state borders. As it turns out, WSOP is still contained in its own separate network, independently from New Jersey, Delaware, and Nevada.
However, the website does benefit from 888poker’s latest software platform dubbed Poker 8. Not only that, but WSOP is already listing satellites that will help pave the way for shared liquidity. The ambitious launch of Poker 8 in Pennsylvania is also the first place in the United States, where the revamped version of the software has completely replaced the incumbent platform.
In comparison, all other states where WSOP runs are limited to the classic version of the game. WSOP is hoping to leverage both the fact that it uses the most modern software in America and the fact that it allows qualifications for the World Series to spur interest in Pennsylvania, a state that welcomed poker eagerly but had few options outside of PokerStars.
The $50,000 Depositor’s Freeroll will get underway on August 22, and any player who has deposited between July 15 and August 15 will get a ticket to join the event for a chance to reach the WSOP Las Vegas Series on merit alone.
